I was booting from a floppy and copying down the Windows file from the network, and executing the files from the local hard drive, we you installing of a bootable CD version of Windows? Because I found that if I remove the floppy after the first reboot it all works fine. One issue I'm still having is getting the CD drive recognised, though this is not a critical issue.

There are a lot of old programs which will not run on XP that I want to use it for (it's not for internet connectivity so security is not an issue).

Update: No the notebook was never intended to run Windows 98 which is why Dell only offers the 2000/XP drivers. The Dell CD is worthless.
