Yeah, the mobo options from Dell, HP, Acer and the gang all suck for modding (not that I blame them). I wasn't sure if CPUs could run at lower FSB speeds in the same way that RAM can be downclocked (one of my rigs took a 2GB DDR2-800 module and runs it at 667). I'm pretty sure that I'll be limited to 4x00 procs as you point out (I'd consider a move to the 2x00 CPUs an ultra-light upgrade from the 651 cedar mill). I had been curious about the 5x00 CPUs (some guy is selling a 2.8 GHz 5200 for $90 in the BST), but until I see something concrete, I'll not be the guinea pig Thanks for your time! I'm pretty sure the 4x00 CPU is what I'll end up with, but largely due to my budget. I'm more in the market for a $60 C2D (used), so I'll take somebodys retired proc from the BST. I've picked up a few AMD X2-5600 procs for $60 in the last week (dudes are migrating to Phenoms), and I'm watching for similar scores from the Intel crowd. One guy has a very tempting BNIB C2D-5200 for $90, but I'm willing to slum a bit with a used 4300-4500 Mic. THIS BOARD WILL NOT OverClock at all, NO SETTING's for doing so!! This E4700 Scored a 5.9 on CPU with 533FSB and scores a 6.3 on 667FSB! The MEMORY Scoring 4.8 533mhz and 5.9 @ 667mhz both in Dual Channel setup!! I have the most current Official BIOS on this System from above link i posted earlier, IT WILL NOT RUN 1066FSB E5x00 CPU's - I tried an E5200 from another PC and it failed BOOT!!! I believe it is because of the 45nm instead of the 65nm brewing process ther made by!!! I got this E4700 on eBay for $55, and worx righteous compared to the Celeron D 352 3.2ghz 512kb which scored a 3.7 in Win7 X64!!! I Believe the Core2 Duo E4700 is the fastest/best CPU solution for this board when you compare to the PentiumD DualCore 3.6ghz it just produces alot of heat and scores about the same across the scales!!!
